Terrados (Rooftops) 2011

Rooftops is my first feature film as writer, director, lead actor, and producer. It's a very spontaneous and fresh production financed with barely 12,000 € in 2010, which took the Audiece Award at the Valladolid Seminci 2011 and was released in Spanish theatres and on DVD by the label Cameo between 2012 and 2013. A long and enriching experience in low cost filmmaking taken to its utmost consequences.

During the severe economic crisis plaguing Spain during 2010, Leo and his friends enjoy a conveniently secure situation living on unemployment insurance. In their thirties and unmotivated by the working environment, they spend their days visiting different rooftops around the city chosen at random to spend hours doing nothing. In the midst of this stream of passivity and evasion, Leo discovers that perhaps he had never before stopped to think what he really wants. The relationships with his girlfriend Ana and his best friend Mario mark the beat of Leo’s evolution to a point where he will have to decide whether to continue his same old life, or conversely, follow his instincts and take his own initiative.

Terrados (Rooftops) was made without any public subsidy, with a total budget of € 12,000 that the producer put out of his own pocket. A group of people decided to get involved in the project and put their time, energy and means to carry out the shoot in June 2010, which lasted three weeks. The rest of the production was completed throughout that and the following year, resuming its final sound mix in September 2011, just a month before its premiere at the Valladolid International Film Festival, where it walked out with the Audience Award. At the present time, Moviement Films is preparing a campaign of promotion and and self distribution consisting of projecting the film in various rooftops in Barcelona, mainly. Terrados (Rooftops) will be released on the internet, DVD (includes the Making Of and the director's first two short films)  and TV, and it remains to be confirmed whether it will also make it to theaters.
